Dawn J. Smith is General Counsel of the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission and a member of the Focus Group established to develop new arbitration legislation for the BVI.
A barrister of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (British Virgin Islands) since 1997, Dawn was in private practice with a focus on commercial litigation until she joined the Commission in January, 2013. She also spent a number of years (2006-2009) as the BVI’s representative in Europe based in London.
Dawn is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She is a founding member and currently serves as Chairperson of the BVI Chapter and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Caribbean Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She is also a solicitor of England and Wales (non-practicing) and a member of the BVI Bar Association.
